it is just something passed down from a long time ago.... for a while it was glamorized within the black community beginning with the counter culture movements during the later part of the 20th century. in the 1980's and 90's it became glamorized in the white community as well. why do blk men (mostly) use it with each other.... well, because it is something of a way of not losing completely. it's like the moral equivalent of a counter attack for being in the inferior position to whites and others. not in terms of identity but just a way of having some degree of separation or rebellion.

There have been (and still are) slaves of many colors. I use the term "color" as we are ALL one race, the human race as it is. We are all just in different "colors" or skin pigment types.

As far as slavery, there have been "white" slaves in the not so distant past. Whites have used whites as slaves in the past, as well as people of color. I've seen it still exist in very rural southern areas where those who have mistreat and look-down on those who have not.
