I will bet all I own that New England won't score 48 against the Skins and that will be in Foxboro. Dallas might or might not beat Green Bay......and their chances to do so would certainly diminish at Lambeau. As far as the Skins getting beat by Green Bay.....you're right, should have never happened. Washington dominated the game in every facet of it except on the scoreboard. But it's a learning experience and one the Redskins will remember as they develop and learn to go for the jugular. I'll hold off on giving the Cowboys the division title just yet--they still have to play us twice.

As far as the Cowboys go? They hardly look like an elite team to me. The teams they've beaten have a combined record of 5-22 (including two 0-6 teams). The one time they actually play a good team and they get ran off the field and embarrassed. Their defense is a sive, they are undisciplined and penalty prone, their quarterback looks like a deer caught in the headlights much of the time, their best receiver drops more balls than he catches and is nothing but a (detrimental) mouth, their coach has no hold on this team whatsover and that locker room, given one more loss like they took yesterday, is set to implode.

As far as college goes.......

Ohio State, my hometown team, is deserving of the #1 ranking because they've won 25 straight regular season games and undefeated. They have a top notch coach, great offensive line, a top flight back and one of the best defenses in the country. The tale of the tape will come in these last 5 weeks against Michigan State, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin and, of course, Michigan.

I am not a believer in USF (yet) or the big East. It's a highly-overated conference so far. West Virginia, despite losing to USF, looks like the class of the conference to me. I don't think USF will survive Rutgers Thursday. Even if they do I don't think they run the table-not with Cincinnati, Louisville and others remaining.

UK gets yet another chance to prove their worth against the Gators at Commonwealth Stadium this week. If they win that one, which I don't think they will, then I will be a believer. I already think Andre Woodson is the Heisman front-runner.

Don't sleep on Penn State making noise in the big Ten either. They never should have lost to Illinois (4 turnovers inside the Illini 15 yard line) and were one big offensive play away from beating a rejuvenated michigan team in the Big House. I guarantee Ohio State won't sleep on them; especially in Happy Valley.....a place the Buckeyes rarely win.

My Top Ten:

1) Ohio State
2) Oklahoma
3) LSU
4) Boston College
5) USF
6) West Virginia
7) South Carolina
8) Arizona State
9) Kentucky
10) Florida

Not exactly the same but similar enough that we see fairly eye to eye.

How 'bout those Indians? Could this be their first world series title since 1954???

  • #103
You guys better relax on Ohio State. Later on I will say I told you so.

  • #104
Same way you better relax on the Cowgirls. Besides, no one is claiming the Buckeyes are a juggernaut......just that they're as good as any team available in college football at the moment.

  • #105
Yes Pimp Ohio is as good as any team they are like the Cowboys a elite team.

  • #106
You call a team that beats teams with a combined 7-22 record and gets embarrassed 48-27 by the one team they play with a winning record elite? If you do the term "elite" certainly has diminished! ;)

I hope to not sound too much like the guy in the Bruce Springsteen song “Glory Days” with this post but…….

Since most of us in this thread are avid sport’s fans, I’m assuming most of us have played on some level. And while much of this thread has focused on college and professional football, I thought I’d switch it up for a second and go the high school route.

This is the chance to tell about your past accomplishments as a player and tell a bit about the high school you attended.

I graduated June 5th, 1987 from Wheelersburg (Ohio) High School. Our team’s nickname is the Pirates. Our school colors are orange and black. Wheelersburg is a perennial football power (basketball & baseball also) in southern Ohio. We have won state championships in all three sports.

When I played for “the Burg,” as we’re locally known, I did so for a man named Ed Miller. Coach Miller, to date, is the only coach from the southern part of Ohio to be inducted into the Ohio High School Hall of Fame. Mr. Miller graduated from Wheelersburg in 1955 and went on to play college football at Eastern Kentucky University and then briefly with the Buffalo Bills.

Coach Miller returned to the area and began his coaching career at a nearby high school; a private catholic school known as Notre Dame. He returned to his alma mater, Wheelersburg, as head coach in 1972. He was at Notre Dame for nine years and Wheelersburg for nineteen more.

In his 28 years as a coach, Mr. Miller compiled a regular season record of 240-38-2. He was 9-6 in the playoffs for an overall record of 249-44-2; a winning percentage of 84%! He won his only state championship in 1989, going 14-0 and punctuating the season with a 14-7 victory over Warren John F. Kennedy high school in the championship game at the Horseshoe on the campus of Ohio State University.

He likely would have won a few more state championships but his best teams at Wheelersburg didn’t qualify for the playoffs in the 1970’s. From 1972 to 1979, a span of eight seasons, coach went 73-5-2 with undefeated teams in 1973, ’74, ’76, ‘78 and ‘79. Oddly enough, he didn’t make the playoffs until 1981 when the team was 8-2. I believe the ‘79 team was the school’s best ever-they were just flat-out awesome.

From 1979 until 1986 no teams (locally within our county) went undefeated. So my senior season we went 10-0—the first since the Burg team of 1979. In the playoffs we faced defending state champion Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education (better known as Cape). Cape featured future Ohio State Buckeye and Denver Bronco tailback Carlos Snow, future Ohio State and NFL defensive back Vinnie Clark and future Marshall Thundering Herd and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Michael Bryant. On their way to a 2nd consecutive state title, Cape handed it to us pretty good, 37-8.

Wheelersburg, being the traditional football power that they are, has accomplished many things on the football field. The conference we play in was established in 1972. Of the 34 conference champions to be won, Wheelersburg has claimed 28 of them. We have had seven undefeated teams. We have made the state playoffs 20 times (just think if the 1972-1979 teams had qualified) and won a state championship. We have a .500 record in playoff games (20-20). Coach Miller had 11 of his 19 teams at Wheelersburg ranked in the Associated Press top ten, including seven teams in the top 3. But perhaps the most impressive fact of Wheelersburg football, and the one I am both most awed and proud of, is that the Wheelersburg Pirates have not had a losing record since 1964! I will have to check but I’d not be a bit surprised if that is some kind of state record.

The Burg is only 5-3 this season but have lost to three teams heading to the playoffs and all at least one division bigger than us in size and ranked in the state. They lost to Portsmouth, 27-20 when Portsmouth recovered a bad exchange between our center and quarterback as we tried to run out the clock and protect a 20-19 lead with 1:00 minute to play. They scored with 5 seconds to go to win. Portsmouth is 7-1 and Division 3, ranked 6th in the state. We lost to Johnson Central, Kentucky 14-3. Johnson Central is ranked 5th in Kentucky’s second largest division and were state semi-finalists last year. They are 7-1. Lastly we lost to St. Clairsville 21-7. St. Clairsville is ranked 10th in the state and are 8-0.

Still, the Pirates are playing for their 29th SOC championship this Friday night at the appropriately named Ed Miller stadium against the Waverly Tigers, the 11th ranked team in the state in division four (Wheelersburg is only division 5). Waverly has won 22 straight regular season games but, due to the respect for Wheelersburg, they are only a touchdown favorite according to preps.com. Wheelersburg is poised to make their 21st playoff appearance as they are currently 3rd in their region and the top eight teams make the playoffs. It’s no wonder, given the storied gridiron history of my old high school, that I am a proud alumnus!

Some of my individual accomplishments in sports at Wheelersburg High School:

My junior season I carried the ball 130 times for 1,323 yards and 17 touchdowns
My senior season I carried the ball 183 times for 1,844 yards and 23 touchdowns

I was named all-soc and all regional both seasons. I was conference defensive player of the year both seasons.

In my sophomore year for the baseball team I hit .421
In my junior year for the baseball team I hit .545
In my senior year for the baseball team I hit .636 (was a state record for several years)

I was all-soc 3 years, all regional 2 years and all-state 2 years in baseball. I was the soc player of the year in baseball 3 years in a row. I received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Kentucky for baseball.

We are the Pirates bold from Wheelersburg
We are the orange and the black
We’re gonna fight for dear old Wheelersburg
And our foes will never, ever fight us back
Pretty soon we’ll start that score to roll
We’re gonna put that ball right in the goal
We’re gonna win this game for Wheelersburg
Wheelersburg
Wheelersburg
Rah raaah raaaahhhhh
Go! Fight! Win!
Go Burg, Go!!

Holy shit Norm and kdawg with all this listed above of the pimps hell I can't compete with that your going to have to roll in here and take a page. Hell my class was only 128 and the school I went to didn't take a State Title since 1957 so I was told. I wasn't even fucking born yet. Oh man all this of the pimps and even a pic a running a football damn. Well guys my best run in sports in high school 11 grade I nailed a cheerleader twice in one night. Beat that record pimp. HA HA

I hope the cheerleader was a female one, Mulie! :D rofl

Most of my post was meant to shine a spotlight on my old high school, not myself. ;)

What can I say? I'm a sports addict.

Quite impressive, Kdawg. Very much so. I know what you mean to be young again. I'd give a nut to be able to play ball again. Up until this year I had played in an over 30 baseball league in Huntington, West Virginia. But the years of playing centerfield and winging the ball to the plate has taken it's toll; I was told I have no bone left (except for jagged shards) in my right shoulder-the rest is fine powder and need rotator cuff surgery. It's the most painful injury I've ever had (and I had my collar bone actually break through my skn when being tackled running a reverse my sophomore year). But like you, a man can still dream.

My senior year in football we were ranked 3rd in the state and outscored teams 398-50 in the regular season. By the way, my senior class had 120 people in it.

Damn straight it was a female a blonde by the name of Collene and this was after the game. Yeah man I know why you posted I did have a hell of a career in High School just given shit but like kdawg I have to be quite about where I attended things. Got you though didn't I my friend you didn't get a cheerleader and either did kdawg but we only know what Norm is gonna say. I'll bet he played center always bent over liked that ball between his legs with someone elses hands on his balls. LOL

Cocaine Parties?

I wonder if Michael Irvin is still hosting those cocaine parties where all the Cowboys got together to snort lines and circle suck cock? They were attended to a man I hear.........with Jimmy Johnson often the pivot man! :D

I'm real disappointed in you Pimp. I thought you were a bigger man than that. Bringing up a bunch of old unsubstantiated rumors like that. Well the truth can now be told as MuleMan and I were at those parties (Him being a buddy of Michaels of course) and I can say that without a doubt, and MuleMan will back me up on this, that I never saw Jimmy in the pivot position. Don't ask me about Jerry Jones now, but never Jimmy.

BTW did anyone ever read Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson's book. It was rather interesting. Not as good as Roger Staubach's book but interesting.

I agree with your top four college teams there Pimp. I was impressed with Oklahoma when they played Texas. I think it very possible the way this crazy year is going that whatever two teams play for the national title, there may be 3 or even 4 losses between them.

Just for the record I never played football. I was a product of Hartford, Ct so I was a basketball guy. The best teams I was on was in the Army in Germany "72-74" when I was the 6th man and back-up center on the basketball team and I was the starting 1st baseman on the baseball team. We took the championships in both sports both years I was there.

To tell the truth I wouldn't even have joined a team but it kept me from PT in the morning. I was good in sports, I just was never interested except for basketball. I am paying for it now with my bad ankles.

I think the Pats and the Colts are the "elite" teams right now with Dallas and maybe two others further down as the best of the rest.

Nine wins should make the playoffs in the NFC East and ten should take the division. Very possible the "Boys" play the "Skins" three times this year. And the Pats twice.

I started dating a junior when I was a freshman. She was in the flag corps of the band. We dated until halfway through my junior year of high school and her sophomore year of college. She left me with precious little time for cheerleaders although I did manage to bang one at a bonfire party when we celebrated our conference championship my senior year.

I'd not go scheduling a repeat visit with the Pats just yet, Norm. That's a bit premature. And not a slam dunk by a long shot. A basketball player oughta know that! ;)

Question: Who led the entire NFL in dropped passes last year?
Answer: Terrell Owens

Question: Who leads the entire NFL in dropped passes so far this year?
Answer: Terrell Owens

Question: Who is now bitching to the media about not getting the ball enough?
Answer: Terrell Owens

Question: Who is tired of hearing the guy dropping all these passes complain?
Answer: Tony Romo, Jason Whitten, Patrick Crayton, Wade Phillips and the entire Cowboy roster (not to mention the rest of the country)

Question: Who doesn’t have any control of the locker room and the Cowboy team?
Answer: Wade Phillips and, to a degree, Jerry Jones.

Sure looks to me like a team ready to disintegrate and implode given another loss-especially if it happens against a team they should beat.

  • #116
Ah excuse me pimp oh boy but Jerry Jones has got alot of control over the team. As far as Terrell I never liked him from any time in his career they ought to give him to the skins. Sounds to me like you see the skins slipping and sliding where they will never get the no1 spot in the eastern conf. Oh my GO BOYS. By the way Terrell is a bitcher you know how some people like to bitch he's one. Get you a big plate cause you are going to have alot of crow to eat on the skins. Take a course in Cowboy land with Professor muleman and norm. YA GO BOYS

If we wanna go down that road then the epitome of that is James Arthur Monk. Double the catches of Lynn Swann, more than Michael Irvin and just as many rings........and yet a glaring omission from Canton. A travesty of justice.

Oh yeah and lets not forget Jerry Rice and I can't remember the one the pack had that retired at damn near 40 what the hell is his name pimp got a damn mental block had a hard on all day.

  • #120
Well that depends on perception and how you "qualify" a back. Bettis was the best power back of his day and, later in his career, short yardage back. I don't know if he had a hof fame career either but he was certainly the best of the power/big back during his day.

There's no question Monk's deserving. The first receiver ever to catch 100 balls in a season (106 in 1984) and almost 1,000 career catches. Granted no wr is better than Rice but Monk was Rice before Rice was.
