You can really wear it indefinitely providing that it is sized and fitted correctly. I wear mine all the time except when in the shower to clean and shave. It's so much easier to maintain if shaved smooth. I shave every day and my wife loves me hairless down there. If you wear it to bed at night, it does take some getting use to. After a while you just get use to the slight discomfort. You should not be in terrible pain. If you are then it is probably not gapped correctly. I hope this helps.
