what absolute rubbish! The culture may be different, but it is one in which the woman rules the roost even more so than in Europe and America her financial and property rights are protected better than many in Europe and America. If a husband goes bankrupt, she is not bankrupt as well. This comment by hungry lips was pure ignorance of the reality of life in the muslim world.
It is bad enough for a man when one wife 'nags' but when 2, 3 or 4 get together to berate the husband...
How many americans want to end the rights of women to have an abortion? Is that not a fundamental breach of women's rights? Most people living in the Muslim world have their rights curtailed in some way, (men or women). The reality of Somalia was that the Islamic Brotherhood had created stability and brought about an end to crime in most of the country until the American government under Bush who feared anything with 'Islamic' in front of it encouraged the Ethiopians to invade and the country went to the dogs again.
It is not enough to comment on the situation of others, you have know the reality and balance our own attitudes. We all have a problem with Fundamentalists (who are not usually really muslims) with a political agenda, just as we have a Rightwingers (not really christian in their attitude to others), and rednecks who don't give a damn about anything 'different' to their world.
It was and always will be a danger to attach a 'religous' adjective to a description of somebody. The problem does not rely with 'religion' but with the exercise of power for personal satisfaction, political, economic, or sexual aims.
When a wealthy arab man in the United Arab Emirates sends an American or English 'au-pair' to a brothel compound for a month's training because she is not as co-operative as he wants her to be, it is not about religion, it is about abuse of power and money.
Why have there not been more stories leaked about this practice? 1) Money 2) American and British governments protecting their economic interest first 3) When they leave the brothel there make sure there are plenty of pictures and video's of the au-pair enjoying an orgasm or two to ensure they are too embarrassed to complain

Expat u know i got respect for u but i do not think i can agree with u here. It is one thing to say islamic fundamentalists are not 'really' muslim but if there only people will not stand up and say so what the hell difference does it make? Extremists set agendas by going out and stirring trouble. And for every one extremist or terrorist...muslim or not....who actually makes trouble there is usually a dozen who support or encourage him and another hundred who agree with him even if they do not say so.
Ignorance is part of the problem along with old traditions that have nothing to do with islam. Female genital mutilation is not mentioned at all in the koran and is just another weird african custom but it spread along with islam and many muslims think it is an islamic tradition instead of just a secular cultural one because the common people are not being educated properly which is something else that helps terrorism. Same thing with honor killings which are still practiced and approved of even tho i hear the koran actually condemns the killing of one's offspring. And in places like Pakistan and Bangladesh u have women being splashed with acid by angry husbands. In India u have female infanticide and selective abortion because of the old tradition favoring boys. Yes u got assholes abusing women in the west. But u also got people openly condemning it and demanding harsh punishment for guys who do that shit. I believe it is much worse in the third world. Mind u i know there are good people out there too who would not dream of doing that kind of thing. I just think women are better off in America or Europe.

It used to be very evident in certain parts of London, but I have not lived there for seven years so cannot say if it is still the case, but certain pubs, hotel and cocktail bars in Knightsbridge in particular use to throng with well bred very stylish English women flirting with the wealthy arab playboys, 'other national' millionaires who like to make their money outside the UK, but live and spend it in London and on English women, who seem as much as anything be looking for 'something' different, or wilder when they flirt with such men.
There is also an area of London that's location temporarily slips my mind but is NW central london where there are a lot of 'arabic men's bars/clubs' these are not so wealthy places and are usually arabic men only. They don't bring their women to such places but some white women do go there. I remember one 'friend' telling me that if she had a hankering on any particular evening for 'anal' that was where she would go.
In southern Paris there are many immigrant barrio's often Algerian, Turkish, or African. One French lady I was in touch with introduced to 'inter-racial sex when her husband worked in Djibouti and one of his more forceful work colleagues decided to teach her what was what, and later took her to parties where she was the only women there.
Back in Paris she found she missed that sort of thing, far more than she had anticipated, and when the 'drive' became too great she said she would just walk into those areas, walk into an 'immigrant' block of flats and just start talking to the men sitting around in the lobby. It was not usually long before she was taken off somewhere by a party of men.

Im not familiar with Paris in particular, but I did spend 1 year as a student in France. I had been with Black men before but not with Arab men.But my French girlfriends regularly dated Moroccan, Algerian and other arab nationalities, so I was often introduced to them in clubs etc.I honestly didnt know much about Arab men, never mind muslim men. Anyway as an overseas student, I was pretty quickly chatted up and asked out by muslim men, and did go out with one guy for most of my time there. From my experience, I think most muslim guys were with French girls.

Probably especially so in Britains misnamed 'Immigration Service' but most Britons and Europeans are very relaxed and the Britsish favourite meal out is invariably 'Indian', though I prefer 'Thai'. There are it is reported 1 million 'immigrants' in Britain, while 5 million Britons themselves live overseas.
But at least your friend was right about Bush and Iraq. Not a good policy when attacked by 'one party' to get revenge by attacking 'another party' that had nothing to do with the 1st attack

I'm an Asian guy (Indian Subcontinent) and been here most of my life. I can't understand where the haters are coming from. I think its more to do with feeling inadequate themselves.
