I am somewhat of a Civil War buff and from all Ive read is ************ then was mostly a economic reality. The breadwinner of the family was in the army making $11 a month and in many areas there were no jobs available for the women. Many were camp followers and many worked in brothels near army camps or major cities. it was tolerated by the "Moral Majority" because it kept their daughters "pure" from the army ruffians. Ive never read a account of white girls selling to black men, but it probably happened.. There were tens of thousands USCT (United States Colored Troops) One can be sure no white guy would have anything to do with her if he knew this tho....given the standard of the day
