thanks for the feedback so far! I live in Germany, but in the east, where there are (sadly) very few Black Men. THere are a few immigrants from Angola and Mozambique, due ot ties durign Communist times. HEre, there is not a great deal of prejudie against Blacks, as in the US. I can say that, yes, in western Germany, there are many German women who date AMerican Blacks.

But the missing the taboo aspect is, I think, WHY many more European white women go for African Black men-- it is not such a taboo that they are afaid, is it merely thought "exotic".

I would really like to hear more about people from European countries, especially Finland, to see if this is true that Black Men are so popular there. THe reason I feel free to make such a generalisation is that the population there is so small that you can really NOTICE when such a phenomenon takes place.

I've had some experience with the German thing you mention. I can (badly, mind you) speak a little of it, and have worked with many German immigrants. I was actually surprised when they explained to me that many consider it a great honor for a German woman to marry a black American man.

I think it has to do with a couple of things. Most likely, it's a way to show revulsion towards the national socialist racial supremacy doctrine that caused Germany so much death and destruction in the mid 20th century. My guess is that most Germans would embrace anything that helps show they are as far from that line of thinking as possible. Just a hunch, I've nothing to support that and readily admit I may be completely wrong in my assumption. That's just always made sense to me.

You also have to understand that this was a nation of people that actually thought themselves racially superior to eastern europeans and everyone else. Jessie Owens was quite a shock to those people,and it's not much of a stretch to go from viewing people in one extreme (sub human) to another extreme (super human), rather than viewing people equally as should be done. Once the brain is trained to superimpose racial superiority themes over issues, it's hard for folks to break that habit.....which is all the more reason that teaching kids to play together and get along at an early age and to ****** them to people from other walks of life is so important. It's like that age old cliche where if you put 6 kids of different races s in a sand box at 3 years old, they will all play together and have no problem with each other.....it's not until someone has "taught" them later in life to hate and to identify with a "group" that the seeds of hatred are typically sewn.

Apart from that, with bases such as Landstuhl, there is a lot of contact between members of our armed forces and German civilians. This isn't new either. We always assumed that WW3 would be fought in Germany somewhere against advancing Russian armies, and have thus maintained a hefty military presence in that area. Most of the time, the couples I'm aware of that are German wife/American husband (black) are the result of a stay in Germany on military deployment.

In truth, there are many white/white relationships between Germans and Americans as well, so it's not a rule of thumb or anything, but yes, the Germans do seem to be what I'd call "progressive" in terms of accepting interracial dating/marriage.

well, I just can't really agree with Germany, as I live there and have not noticed ANY such thing, though it may be different in certain places. Of course, more people have been to Germany than elsewhre, as it is simply a more important country, so that also skews the results. Hey, good point about Japan. I have been there, in fact, and moreover, I used to live in Korea for some time, and heard about the phenomenon there. Well, I'm not from Finland, but I do think there's one aspect that may at least partly explain:
