I didn't see this movie but I read the book. How come whenever there is a movie, a TV show, or often a book that deals with black/white relations they bring up racism. They can't touch it and leave it alone.

There is a pattern in these movies as Racism is always a one way street. You just see " the south" and know what's coming. Some angry white guys calling a black guy a ni66er. "Remember the Titans" has all the white people angry at the blacks and sometimes calling blacks monkeys. The whites all want to segregate away from the blacks.

Of course there aren't any examples of black on white crime, or black on white racism, or blacks picking on whites. It's always whites calling blacks the N word. Because that's the way the real world is???? Just a bunch of mean white people picking on blacks??? Is that why no white people in their right minds want to go anywhere near the ghetto?

Look at all the TV shows. Blacks aren't gangsters, they are all nice, respectful, smart and don't speak ebonics. Have you ever seen a TV show with white people the victims of racism?

Look at all the movies, racism a one way street.

Look at all the commercials on TV, some white guy is barking like a dog or doing something stupid, or using the old product, and then the "smart" or "cool" black guy comes alone and shows him what product he really should be buying. White = dumb, black = smart.

Look at all the newspaper ads. Of course you can't have 2 white models showing off clothes for Macy's. You have to have 1 black and 1 white. Because that's all America is right? There is no such thing as Asian or hispanic people, it's 50% white and 50% black right????

It isn't about "diversity", because there is nothing diverse about it. 99% of commercials are 1 black and 1 white. It used to be blacks would argue that they are "under represented" on TV, but I'd argue that they are way over represented on TV. Blacks are 12% of the population, but probably close to 50% of the people on commercials. Everybody wants to "support diversity" etc. They just have to have a smart black guy on there to be politically correct marketing their product. I wouldn't really argue whites are under represented as whites are roughly 70% of the people in this country and probably close to 70% of TV. The only thing is blacks are the other 30% to 50% of the people on TV and commercials ( and not other races). Even the all white shows have "token" black people.

I'm just sick of whenever black/white relations come up on TV, they are always portraying mean white racist people. That's hardly reality.

These guys have to make controversial movies to stir up emotions so that people will buy tickets to see them.

Turn the other cheek and don't over-react to racist slurs, whether they are intended or not. It is not what people say, but how we react to them.

Some people like to "wind you up" so you dance about all angry - but what would happen if you CHOSE to NOT TAKE OFFENCE ?.........they could not wind you up anymore, so they would lose their power to make you angry.

So if no one bought tickets to racist movies, they would STOP MAKING THEM.
Democracy allows people to choose which movies they wish to see - and then lets them enjoy the FEELING of being insulted as many times as they CRAVE that to happen.

That's just not true at all ....how about FRIENDS, OR SEINFIELD, CALIFORNICATION, ENTOURAGE, ....and the list could go on. You say white people make up 70% of the population of the U.S. ...and are 70% of what we see on TV...and then you stated that blacks make up the other 30-50% of the people of TV.

That doesn't make any sense.

And the fact is there is a MUCH higher % of BLACK on BLACK crime than there is Black on White crime.

that's just plain silly talk. You see a relatively high number of blacks in commercials because advertisers know that people of color(black) but watch a higher % of TV than white folks....it has know thing to do with "diversity" it has to do with selling products...which in case you didn't know, is what network and basic cable TV is all about.

In case you haven't noticed, a lot of commercials are two people. One person representing the old product, and one person representing the product you want to buy. The person selling the old product is usually white and they usually act stupid. The person selling the new product is usually black and they are usually smart, cool, laid back, and have the easy solution... buy THIS instead. Yeah, it's politically correct but it gets old.

I have my own issues with movies like the The Blind Side, Dangerous Minds,Freedom Writers,etc...movies that portray blacks always in need and whites showing them hope...I know the movie is based on true events but I just hate the perception...just me.

Along the lines of the spirit of this thread.... I think it's hilarious (and quite telling) that there's never a black guy breaking into a house on an ADT Security commercial. It's always a white guy. There was also a commercial about identity theft where a black woman throws away her credit card bill and a white dude snatches it up out of her trash can and steals her identity.

Where to start? First of the character of Kramer's lawyer wasn't a regular on the series he was on for 3 or 4 episodes total....it might seem like more because they were some of the funniest ones. Next who cares that there were no black people on FRIENDS? Not me. I found the show to be funny at times...I was just pointing out that most shows don't have a "token" black character.

You don't want to piss off sistas and under represent the 13% minority.
