I guess we found out again that black men are superior to white men tonight.

rubbish --------- what we have learnt is American has grown up and entered the 21st century

Not really. This country swings from one extreme to the other. Especially when the economy is in the crapper! When we had a recession during the Carter Administration, the voters voted for Regan in a landslide! When we had another recession during Bush SR's Administration, Clinton won easily. This is for the most part, a conservative leaning moderate country, but we tend to run from one extreme (neo-conservatism) to the other (liberalism).

Obma's win wasn't as much a Mandate for him and liberalism, as much as a mandate against Bush and 4 more years of neo-conservatism. If Obama and the democrats can't repair our economy and raise consumer confidence quickly, the tide will swing the other way, They have two years until the next congressional election to prove themselves, otherwise their control of congress will be very short lived.

Obama is going to tax the wealthy as well and even send more troops to Iraq so i do not think it was his politics that won but his charisma but I do agree that America need him something terrible and he will most likely go on to become one of Americas finest presidents which is great news for the UK as well........

I think you have it right. The current global financial and economic meltdown, in particular, has had the effect of focusing everyone's attention on what's real (sort of like the prospect of being hanged), and the requirement for a president who is actually capable of guiding us through and getting us out of this mess — as well as all the other disasters left by the Bush/Cheney administration, including but not limited to the war in Iraq.

I think you may be overlooking a trend based on demographics. See:

Judis, John B., and Ruy Teixeira. 2002. The Emerging Democratic Majority (213 pp).

MacNfries,

I think your comments are excellent.

Yeah, this has little to do with him being black.
Obama is simply viewed as a potential great leader at a time when the US desperately needs one.

As I always say, "I do not really care who is in charge of anything, as long as they know what they are doing". :)

The only charisma he has is he reads the telprompter well, and i do not care who would have won neither person can fix the ecomonyas for becoming great watch taxes go up and watch all the persons that have not payed taxes get tax refund checks. one hope you have lots of stock in jonson & johnson the makers of KY

ok, I am a conservative, in my opinion there are a fewblack men that are very well qualified to be be POTUS, but nobama is not amng them show me one, just one acomplishment that he has to his credit. then take a close look at his friends and advisors, I do not want socialized medicine, I believe in god, and I will keep my guns. now for th most impotant part, this is not a political forum and has no place here. respectully me.

And you realize that over 60% of the people in the United States with graduate level education (that means greater than a Bachelor's degree) voted for Obama?

I don't want socialized medicine, I believe in a person's right to choose their spiritual path, and I believe in the right to bear arms.

I also believe the government has no business telling me what goes on in my bedroom. I believe the government has no right to tell my wife and I if we should use birth control. I don't want politicians who abuse their power in office (take a look at what Palin has done as a politician in Alaska... frightening) and I believe that the last 8 years have shown that trickle down economics don't work.

I must note i am from Britain (scotland) and for someone to say he does not have charisma, he justs reads the teleprompter well is rather harsh. I find it funny that someone posted they do not care about who is president because the economy is already down the pan meaning that the leader of the country is irrelevant. The financial crisis occured in America because of banks lending money to people with poor credit history, this money was taken and used to buy homes. With a finanical stimulus the economy can be repaired but this can be achieved if implemented by someone who people can admire becuase it will be a long journey and if i was American i would rather follow Obama than Bush during times of uncertainty,

I trust in God....
God causes the mighty to rise and fall.
It's in paslms.
Whom ever is president is only a part of the equation. I just wonder if his tax plan goes as planned will Ophra still think the same ?
Bob Dole
American whom wasn't allowed to vote..

I am surprised to see you posting, your poor wife must be a basket case. NC threw her butt to the street, fast and hard. A little bruised I would imagine. Just keep kissing that ass and it will feel her better. The big E needs a little TLC.

What a bunch of LIBTARDS on this site.

When I originally made the post I hesitated in writing what I did. Then I posted figuring I would get some hate out of it, but I figured most people would see the statement for what it was; a joke. The statement is pure rubbish as was stated earlier. I do have to say I was pleasently surprised by the amount of posts that followed mine. I was also surprised at the amount of people that actually carried on a serious intellectual forum. I seriously thought that I would get some hate, and people telling me what a ridiculous remark it was. I also expected to get some remarks stating I was right. I actually thought the posts supporting the remark would far outweigh the posts telling me I was a douchebag. I am very pleased that people here did make it a serious conversation whether you are republican or democrat; whether you voted for Obama or not. And anyone that read tht statement should call me a douchebag because it was complete rubbish.

Lil Cuck,

You represent yourself with what you write. People respond to what you say.

Lil Cuck ... Obama's race, which is neither black nor white, had very little to do with his being elected. As a matter of fact, many more whites voted for Obama than blacks or hispanics. My wife and I (and we're both white) voted for Obama because he's a positive thinker, young, articulate, and he chose a wise & seasoned running mate in Biden. Obama represented to me, a fresh, new face to a political system infested by old-fashion, self-serving, career politicians ... both Republican and Democrat.

I simply saw McCain as a continuation of Bush ideologies (trickle down econmics & tax cuts for the wealthy). I also saw him as bone-headed, just like Bush ... the old "my way or the highway" mentality. McCain's constant sarcastic statements of Obama during debates and his "sound accounting principles" statement the day before the big Wall Street crash, sealed his own doom. McCain had a terrible campaign strategy and he paid for it.

Many blacks and whites do see Obama as a black man due to his physical features, and that's fine. But I have a feeling (and hope) that, with the benefits that many blacks feel they will get with Obama, Obama is going to expect blacks to pull themselves up and start helping themselves and quit using the white man as their excuse for their hardships and past failures. There are no more excuses! This country is in serious need of unity right now!

I agree with the first part, but black people can only pull themselvs up by having equal opportunity, access to education and jobs more in line with their qualifications.
It is only a short while ago,and i can remember, when your country operated the aparthied system, some of those attitudes are deeply rooted in your culture.
Let's hope Obama gives the underclass of all colours a fairer crack of the whip

why not socialised medicine?if you are spiritual, you should care about others, less fortunate.
The right to bear arms is frightening, you live in one of the most violent countries in the world, where any nutter can get a gun.
The right to defend yourself? totally abused which leads to more violence.
Correct, the trickle down never works, you don't think the wealthy are gonna give up their wealth easily?
You seem confused about where you stand,on the one hand you don't want socialised medicine, and you want to carry arms, very right wing, then you say that capitalism don't work and Sarah Palin has abused her power, very left wing?

I agree this is not a political forum, but i note that you stated this AFTER you had made a political point.
On which statistics do you base your opinion, that there are only a few black men qualified?
If you believe in god,why do you need a gun?
