Robert F. Kennedy Jr. & Greg Palast published the story "Block the Vote" in this week's issue of Rolling Stone.

Check it out: Block the Vote : Rolling Stone

Read, rinse, repeat, discuss. :)

By the way...

I voted for Bush in 2000. I'm an ardent Independent. It's easy to roll ones eyes at extremists on both the left and the right. The level of corruption in this white house and this Congress (on both sides of the aisle) is disheartening and, frankly, disgusting.

That said, being objective about the issue of "stealing the vote", it seems there is a wide variety of evidence that Republicans have systematically and illegally denied thousands of mostly black democratic votes in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections.

Some people here have questioned the validity of this reality, even with all of the available evidence. It does not take a lot of independent thought or effort to find all the evidence one needs to essentially prove this has been a very real problem in the past two elections.

So, the question remains: can the Republicans steal this election too? My guess is that Obama's lead is insurmountable at this point, regardless of any voting shenanigans. The latest Pew poll has Obama up by 14 points. The NBC poll today has him up by 10 points.

Still, the "Block the Vote" article is an interesting read which paints a chilling picture of how dirty the politics of voting has truly become.

The so-called "scandal" of Acorn doesn't hold a candle to this.

UPDATE:

For anyone who doubts the validity of these sorts of hijinx, here's a book everyone should check out (yes, this means you Will ;-)). Hilarious, chilling look at voting politics from the inside perspective of a former high-level Republican operative named Allen Raymond who infamously helped rig elections, was caught, and spent time in jail.

Here's the mini-Review on Amazon...
******************
From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review.

"Republican campaign advisor Raymond achieved some notoriety when he plead guilty in federal court to jamming Connecticut phone lines in a 2002 Democratic get-out-the-vote effort-small potatoes compared to what he had gotten away with for more than a decade, vividly and hilariously chronicled in this outrageous career retrospective. For 13 years, Raymond worked his way up the ranks of GOP operatives by smearing opponents and worse in campaigns across the country, including the aborted presidential bid of Steve Forbes. Besides documenting such ingenious strategies as arranging for phone calls during the Super Bowl touting his candidate's opponent, Raymond witnesses the Republican party's rise to power in the 1990s, and the effects of that power, in both professional and personal terms. ("Bill Martini's screaming fits were reaching exciting new heights all the time.") Though Raymond appreciates the depravity of his former enterprise ("if you could find two of us Republican operatives who could still tell the difference between politics and crime, you could probably have rubbed us together for fire as well"), his confession often sounds a lot like boasting; naturally, Raymond is charming enough to get away with it, taking a deliciously cynical view of everyone involved (voters especially). For those who care about the electoral system, this look inside the sausage factory of contemporary campaigning is compelling, arguably essential, reading."
*******************

When asked by Bill Maher on tonight's episode of "Real Time" why he spent time in jail and someone like Karl Rove still hasn't been put behind bars yet, Mr. Raymond just laughed and then with a serious look on his face dead-panned, "Because he's smarter than me...when confronted with what I had done and approached by authorities I told the truth."

Ya know, actually its not. But I guess actually reading would take too much effort, eh? ;-)

By the way, one of the main things that Mr. Raymond talks about in his book is how the Republican electoral machine thanks their "base" for their unwavering patronage and then generally talks shit about you behind your back as being "ignorant gun-toting bible thumpers". They love the zeal of the lunatic fringe because it guarantees them a certain percentage of the vote, but don't think for a second they actually care about you because if you can't afford a $50,000 dinner at a fund-raiser in DC then they most certainly don't. This is pretty much a direct quote from a guy who was a very high ranking Repub operative for over 10 years. But, hey, don't take his word for it...just keep drinking the kool-aid and pretending that today's Republican party resembles the REAL Republican party that used to actually exist. :nutkick:

The Republican party bears very little resemblence to what it once was. It's values of personal freedom and responsibility have been hijacked. It should be renamed to the Democrat party. The Republican party now looks like the Democrat party did when Kennedy was in the White House. The only party that truely reflects the values found in the constitution and the defends the bill of rights is the Libertarian party. The Democrat party should be renamed the Socialist party. We also need to add the Marxist party to accomodate many of the folks who agree with extremist like Pelosi, Reid and Obama.
