Trial starts for woman accused of plotting to murder her husband
TALK of murdering her husband was a "bizarre aphrodisiac" for a woman and her secret lover, a jury has heard.
The Supreme Court heard mother of three Vicky Soteriou, 44, plotted with her lover to kill her husband Chris Soteriou so they could be together.
Mr Soteriou was stabbed and his throat was cut as he left his birthday party in Fitzroy last year, but he survived.
Prosecutor Andrew Tinney told the jury in his opening address that Mrs Soteriou had a long-standing affair with Ari Dimitrakis, who stabbed Mr Soteriou.
Mrs Soteriou stood to gain $1.25 million in life insurance and super on her husband’s death, he said.
The jury heard they had each other’s initials tattooed on their bodies, but Dimitrakis told his wife his “V” was for the Melbourne Victory soccer club, and Mrs Soteriou said her “A” was for her son’s name.

He said the lovers exchanged text messages in which Mrs Soteriou called Dimitrakis “my husband” and her only love.
“No other man exists in my eyes, ever,” she allegedly texted to Dimitrakis during their affair.
Mrs Soteriou has pleaded not guilty attempted murder and intentionally causing serious injury.
The jury heard Dimitrakis will give evidence that they discussed divorce, but talk quickly turned to murder instead.
Mr Tinney said Dimitrakis would claim that discussions of the murder plans served as a “bizarre aphrodisiac” for the couple.
He said the lovers even bought cemetery plots together in 2009 at Keilor, kissing and cuddling and telling staff to put the graves in the names of “Ari and Vicky Dimitrakis”.
They explained the names by saying “they were going to be married soon anyway”, Mr Tinney said.
He said cemetery staff recalled Mrs Soteriou arriving in a flashy car and being "dressed to the nines” in designer clothes.
The defence will reply to the opening address this afternoon.
