Have you or your wife/partner ever pulled the plug when it looked like intercourse was inevitable

No, if we choose not to continue its long before "intercourse was inevitable" stage.
Vet your candidates carefully and ditch the unwanted ones early.

Yup I did. We were at a swing club and she was sucking a big cock. He wanted to fuck her and she wanted to fuck him. Just as he was positioning himself to get between her legs to fuck her with his big cock. I noticed he had marls on his legs which I thought could have been Kaposi Sarcoma. Probably wasn't but I wasn't going to take the chance. I used our incredibly complex escape phrase.
"Honey we have to go I'm getting a migraine". She said ok honey closed her legs put her cloths on and we left.

When dating, we always vetted the guys, health checks, etc and never backed away from intercourse after all were right there ready to go as there was a lot of preparation time involved. I would agree with that @zippless had to say; if you are talking about a swinger or a non-vetted situation it would be very understandable to back down if a health issue were to be of concern.
